Vinaya Vidheya Rama movie review: Even Ram Charan cannot save this catastrophe which tests your tolerance level

After an applause-worthy performance in Rangasthalam by Ram Charan, expectations on Vinaya Vidheya Rama were towering high and his fans expected him to take off where he left. But as you jump into the world of Vinaya Vidheya Rama created by Boyapati Sreenu with Ram Charan in the central character, it doesn’t take much time to feel that you’re lost. Vinaya Vidhaya Rama boasts of slow-motion shots, heavy-duty fights and umpteen screams by everyone including actress Sneha who plays a supporting role. The scattered dots take time to connect and when they do, repentance creeps in making you feel why, in the first place, did they.

What’s it about?

Four orphans, who are rag-pickers, find themselves in a do-or-die situation one fine day and decide to end their lives. But as they lay down on railway tracks, they find a young baby crying in the bushes which distracts them from their thought of suicide, which makes them realise he is the reason for them to be lead a good life henceforth. The baby grows up to become Ram Charan and is the pet of the brothers. The brothers, Prashanth, Aryan Rajesh, Ravi Varma, Madhu Nandan and Ram Charan, lead a happy life and they seem to have everything in their family, making it a complete one. Prashanth plays a Chief Election Officer in the plot. He can go to any extent to ensure that elections are conducted in fair manner wherever he is posted. And in the process, he rubs shoulders with Raja Bhai played by Vivek Oberoi who is ruthless and blood-hungry, which director Boyapati Sreenu tries very hard to make us believe. Ram Charan, in the process of protecting his brother and his loyalties, breaks millions of bones and kills hundreds of Vivek’s henchmen, but fails to save his elder brother. And now, he is seeking revenge and this brings us to climax of the film. That’s the skeleton of Vinaya Vidheya Rama for you.

What’s hot:

Ram Charan single-handedly tries to carry the narrative on his shoulder and succeeds to an extent. The action sequences are designed to suit the image of Ram Charan which the mega power star owns totally. Charan comes up with a terrific performance as an uncontrolled and angry young man and shines in few moments. His chiselled body and intense on screen persona are the highlights of the film and will, at times, inspire you to hit the gym. Vivek Oberoi makes his debut with Vinaya Vidheya Rama and plays the antagonist delivering a thumping performance. Kiara Advani looks gorgeous in her part and plays her brief role well.

What’s not:

Director Boyapati Sreenu is known for making pure commercial and action flicks which have worked with masses greatly in the past. However, Vinaya Vidheya Rama falls flat because of its narrative and soulless story which has been tried and tested a million times in the past. Vinaya Vidheya Rama is everything that you don’t want to watch on the big screen, especially with Ram Charan in the central character. Imagine a situation where a Chief Minister of a state introduces himself to the wife of an Election Commission Officer. Yes, she doesn’t know who he is! It takes time to digest these kind of moments in VVR which are in abundance. The songs by Devi Sri Prasad make you wish if it were a video on your phone and you could forward them. Vivek Oberoi sticks to just one expression throughout the film and one feels that he is totally wasted. Kiara Advani’s part makes you feel it could be a forced entry because there were songs in the film. Kiara’s introduction scene has all the potential to spur up a debate on social media and we expect that to happen soon.

BL Verdict:

You need mountain of patience to watch Vinaya Vidheya Rama which will test all your patience till the end.
